In May of 2003, I was at home on my son's new computer. I was checking my email account and saw an ad for AmericanSingles. I thought to myself, “What do I have to lose?” I don’t go out that much or have much of a social life any more, except with my married friends. I'm not a drinker and don't like the bar scene at all.
I purchased a 3-month Premium Membership, filled out all the required information and attached several pictures. Then I started searching in my area. I met several women, but none that I seemed to click with. I expanded my search in Members Online to “anywhere” in the U.S. Again, I met several members and had a few in my "Hot List." I continued to email and chat with the members in my "Hot List," but I never felt a real connection with any of them. Then, late one evening, I thought I would expand my search to anywhere in the world. Wow! I met members from everywhere!
Then I saw Sally, or RSally (her member name). I loved her profile and thought I would take a chance. I sent a quick email and said "Hi from Nebraska in the U.S.A. How are you doing there?" The next day she replied. And that's how it all started. We started out by chatting on the site and exchanging emails. Eventually we got each other's addresses and phone numbers. I made my first phone call to her in June 2003. Boy, was I nervous! Then we starting exchanging mail and pictures.
While chatting, we both realized that we had the same moral standards, love for children and interests. The most amazing thing was that we always thought the same thing at the exact same time. While chatting, we would type the exact same question, answer or sentence at the same time. It still amazes us how we always think alike about almost everything.
In October 2003, we realized that we wanted to meet each other some day, even though we were 10,000 miles apart. We both knew that we wanted it to happen. Four months later, we arranged to be together in the Philippines.
We can both honestly say that we fell in love with each other before we actually met in person.
After 20+ hours of flying, with a three hour layover in Hong Kong, I finally made it to Manila in the Philippines. I can't describe the excitement inside of me as I made it closer to finally seeing the person that I had fell in love with online ten months earlier. After going through immigration and calling Sally from the baggage claim area, we knew we were only minutes away from what we had been waiting for.
I proceeded to the area where she was waiting for me. I came to a crowd of people waiting for other passengers, and then, there she was! She came out of the crowd with a big smile on her face. We looked at each other and both knew it was the happiest day of our lives. After holding and hugging each other, we just looked at each other in amazement. I still remember that day clearly and get tears of joy in my eyes just thinking about it.
That evening, we both knew that we found each other for a reason. We were married almost two weeks later, on February 19, 2004, in Cebu City, Philippines.
Thanks for making our dreams and wishes come true!
