Matt and I met on AmericanSingles in June 2004, ten days before he deployed to Iraq. I didn't know the first thing about the Marines, the war or what it meant to be a military girlfriend, but I knew that Matt was amazing and worth waiting for.
Over the next ten months, the Marines took him to Hawaii, Japan, Kuwait, Iraq and Thailand. It was during this time that we fell in love through letters, phone conversations and online chatting. He was off fighting the war on terrorism, and I was left at home fearing the worst and hoping and praying that I would one day be reunited with the love of my life. It was tough to remain so strong and patient, but I stayed faithful to him and supportive of our country's brave fighters.
Finally, in April 2005, 10 months after Matt and I first began talking, I flew to Hawaii to meet him. We spent four amazing days together, both thankful that he made it home safely and happy to finally meet. That weekend it was obvious that our love was just as real in person as it was over the phone or in a letter.
In 2005, he proposed, and in December, we will be married and I will go to Hawaii to live in marital bliss. I will continue to support and wait for him as he is deployed across the world to preserve our freedom.
